ULTRA LOW ATTENUATION IN INFRARED OPTICAL FIBER TO LEAD TO SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE FOR MEDICAL, DEFENSE AND SPECTROSCOPY APPLICATIONS
Montreal, Canada, January 16, 2008 – IRphotonics, a leading provider of infrared fiber and materials, is proud to announce that it has achieved the lowest reported attenuation for a commercial grade Multi-Mode Infrared optical fiber.
This technological first represents a significant milestone toward the company's goal of enabling next generation Infrared optical systems for medical, defense and spectroscopy applications. It also demonstrates the company’s commitment to meeting customer requirements with leading edge infra red optical fibers.
Daniel Lacroix, VP Operations of IRphotonics explains "A customer requested a long ultra-low loss fiber with less than 3 dB/km @ 3.0 μm for a remote spectroscopy application in the chemical processing industry. Our detailed understanding of Infrared glasses and optical fibers as well as our unique manufacturing process allowed us to achieve these very rigorous specifications. It is a major step forward for the whole industry."
