Zirconium Fluoride Optical Fiber

Although there are many types of fluoride optical fibers, fluoride fibers based on zirconium are a very common composition. Zirconium fluoride optical fibers offer a good compromise between transmittance properties, environmental stability, and mechanical quality.

ZBLAN Fluoride Fiber

ZBLAN Fluoride fiber is a more specific composition that uses zirconium. By varying the composition certain optical environmental or mechanical properties of the fiber can be optimised depending on the end user requirement.

Fluoride Glass

Fluoride glass can be cast and moulded into various types of lenses and windows. It is important to point out that Fluoride glass is transparent from the Ultra Violet all the way to 6,500 nm making fluoride based glasses one of the few materials with this novel optical property.

Specialty Doped Fluoride Fibers

Even though fluoride fibers are commonly made with Zirconium, other compositions can be made by doping the fiber with various concentrations of thulium, praseodymium, holmium and erbium. The choice of dopants as well as its concentration allows IRphotonics to achieve mid infra red fibers and specialty optical fibers with a wide range of mechanical, optical and environmental properties.
